10 Things to Get Rid of Right Now

Do you think you'll miss these items? Think again. You will be surprised just how many things you are holding onto for no rhyme or reason!

10 Things to get rid of right now to de-clutter your home and closets

Do you ever find that you lack motivation to get your work done or finish the chores around your house when the home seems messy or cluttered? Well, you are not alone. Often the hardest part of a task is getting started and this might be due to the amount of items clogging up not only your home, but your mind too. A clean house is a clean slate.

Mark off your to do list by first getting rid of pieces that do not have any value for you or your family members. Here are 10 items that might be lingering around your home, but might be better suited for the donate pile or simply tossed away. Make the most of your home's space and let the stress roll off at the same time.

Linens
Closet space is usually limited and often precious storage space for many household items. Many families find themselves wishing they had more room to store their belongings. Free up space by getting rid of some of those extra sheets that are just sitting in a pile at the top of your closet. Try to limit your sheet collect to just two sets per bed and see how much room you might have to store an extra pair of shoes instead.

Shoes
Now that we are on the topic of shoes, do you really need 10 pairs of flip flops just because they come in different colors? Or what about those kids shoes that have been outgrown and are scattered around the mud room? Take a few minutes to go through the family shoes and ask yourself whether they fit, are currently being worn, or if the family could live without them.

Refrigerator Message Center
There is nothing like a fridge full of alphabet magnets while the kids are little, but once they have grown up and are off to college it might be time to reevaluate why you still have them on your fridge. Notes and other documents are another common clutter item that only makes a kitchen feel unorganized and less inviting. Instead of sticking every important doctors appointment or soccer practice schedule to the fridge, instead use a small white board or chalk board in a designated area to hold those messages.

Expired Makeup
There is nothing worse then hold on to perishables such as makeup once they have expired. Old makeup isn't doing anything for your face or your makeup bag. Indulge in the feeling of a tidy bathroom that holds only the necessities. This tip can also help one get ready quicker in the morning, as they would not be rummaging through their toilet trees to find something specific.

Old Spices
Old spices are a culprit when it comes to pantry disorganization. Instead of imagining a time in the future that you might use a spice. Check to make sure it is even worth holding onto. In order to know if your spices are worth the room in the cupboards take a sniff and smell if they are fragrant or not. If they don't have a sent they will no longer be flavorful.

Paper Clutter
There are so many things to take care of in a days time that it is easy to bring the mail in and drop it off at the kitchen table. Next time you get the mail take just a couple of minutes to make three separate piles. One pile should for your junk mail, which gets thrown out right away. The next pile should be one that is for later reading material. The last pile should be for mail that needs to be filed away. This will save a lot of time later instead of spending those moments rereading everything and then figuring out what to do with the it.

Outdated Electronics
Sometimes it can hurt to get rid of items that cost a lot when they were purchased, but on the other hand holding onto those items will not make them any more valuable. Instead of letting your old electronics sit and collect dust, recycle them or donate them to someone who will have a new appreciation for them.

Kids' Toys
It's easy to hold onto kids toys with the thought of them wanting them someday for their own kids or maybe with the hope of having a another child yourself. Although finding use for hand-me-downs might be a great way to save money, often old and outgrown toys just end up in bins, untouched for years to come. Used toys are great items to donate. Put a smile on a child's face by giving them away.

Nightstand Clutter
Often the nightstand can end up as a catch all or junk drawer and the stuff inside stays there for a very long time. A great way to avoid your nightstand drawers from becoming overloaded with miscellaneous items, try this trick. Use a tray inside the drawer and once the items fill up the tray you will know it is time to go through them. Keep your bedroom zen by removing the clutter that will keep you from getting your beauty sleep.

Too Many Hangers
Hangers in general can start taking over a closet pretty quickly, especially if someone just went through their closet. If you have more then 10 extra hangers in a closet take them out and dispose of them. This will help you organize what you do have and not make you feel the need to buy more pieces just to fill the empty ones.

If you are ready to de-clutter your home start tackling this list. Who knows, you might be inspired to tackle the other areas of your home that need a little extra breathing room.
