Cleaning House the Natural Way

Simple guide to cleaning house without chemicals

Cleaning your house the natural way

As the end of summer approaches and you find yourself making the transition from the fast paced season you might start to notice the need to spruce up your home. As you start to tackle your organizing and clean up try to stay away from harsh chemicals and bring the natural products to the table.

Perhaps you want to gear up for flu season as the kids return to school or you just brought home a new pet or a baby. You might be thinking you should pull out the Clorox, but it might actually do more harm then good. There are several natural-minded products that you might already have in your home that could be put to use. Here are five cleaning tips for different areas of the home:

Kitchen Surfaces
The kitchen is a room where germs accumulate from spilled sauce between the stove and the fridge from grandma's homemade recipe to the garbage pail that has seen better days.“In the kitchen it’s not so much about cleaning as killing,” says Leslie Reichert, author of The Joy of Green Cleaning and founder of greencleaningcoach.com.It is proven that a rather popular item in many homeowner's cupboards called white vinegar kills 98 percent of bacteria. To freshen up the scent add a touch of lemon juice. Hydrogen peroxide is another powerful ingredient you can add to further aid in getting rid of lingering bacteria. To lift dirt try using dish soap.

Windows
An overlooked yet important part of a home's outer walls are windows. Often windows go without being cleaned for the better part of a year and those abiding don't realize how dirty they have gotten until they are clean once again. A useful tip to make these windows gleam is by using a microfiber cloth and water. Just as simple as that. No need for cleaning agents, because the water loosens the dirt and the ridges of the cloth wipe it away. Many find that their windows not only get clean, but stay clean longer.

Bathrooms
Just like the kitchen, the bathrooms need disinfecting too. Vinegar can also be a great cleaning agent in the bathroom to get rid of festering bacteria. To tackle soap scum it is recommended to use this simple natural remedy: Equal parts baking soda, table salt, and oxygen bleach. Sprinkle this mixture over the tough spots and scrub away. You will notice these areas start to smooth out and shine as the soap scum lifts away. Add some essential oil to give your bathroom a clean after scent.

Flooring
Disinfecting floors are a never ending job, but with the help of couple tool and a little soap the job never seemed easier. A microfiber mop is a handy option to get rid of the dust and dirt. The first step is sweeping the floor with a mop, no water necessary. After collecting all the loose debris, dampen the mop and grab a spray bottle. Fill the bottle with water and a few drops of multipurpose soap. Then spray and mop the area to ensure a thoroughly washed floor.

Furniture
When it comes to wood furniture natural cleaners are again a great option to make them shine. You can make a furniture polish yourself by adding 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Combine. Next, add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice gradually to ensure they doesn't separate. Use this mixture to dab onto the furniture with a microfiber cloth. Work the combination into the wood and then wipe it away to reveal a shiny surface.
